SGT thanks our donors!

December 12, 2013

photoEagle Scout Eric Marsh has completed the installation of our donor acknowledgement sign next to the trailside rest area he built in Hammonassett Park.

We are grateful to all of the our donors whose generous support has enabled us to make such great progress on this section of the Trail — Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, The Dorr Foundation, Madison Garden Club, the Madison Newcomers Club, and the Madison Jaycees, and hundreds of individuals.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is first on the list because it starts with A, but also gave the first very large grant designated specifically for the Hammonasset section.  That grant got the project off to a strong start.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has helped with funding through the Long Island Sound License Plate Fund and the Recreational Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration. The DEEP staff has also been tremendously helpful in working through the permitting process.

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven challenged us to raise funds to qualify for their grant and that spurred us to get others to give and have their gifts matched.

The Dorr Foundation made their grant in honor of long-time Madison resident Shirley Punzelt on her retirement from their board of directors.

The Madison Garden Club, the Madison Newcomers Club, and the Madison Jaycees, all civic groups, gave as part of their community support programs.

And finally hundreds of individuals gave to this section.  We hope you enjoy this beautiful Trail.

Thank you all!
