On October 14th, the Branford Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a proposal by Town Engineer Janice Plaziak to apply funds from a federal grant to the design and construction of 1 mile of new trail in Branford.

Branford team members Jack Wood, Peg Stamp, Dave Stamp, and Leo Cristofar are shown listening as Branford Co-Chair Chet Blomquist describes the Tabor section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail to the Board of Selectmen.

The trail will extend from Pine Orchard Road to Meadow Street, passing through the town-owned Tabor property.  Shoreline Greenway Trail already has a temporary trail on this property that runs along Chet’s Pond and exits at Tabor Drive.

This scenic trail section will offer safe off-road biking to families, pedestrian access for joggers and walkers, and handicapped access as well.  It will be a great addition to the recreational facilities of the Town of Branford, adding to the attraction of nearby Ecology Park, which was recently officially opened. When finished, the trail section (known as Branford section B3 of the Shoreline Greenway Trail) will form an important step towards our goal to provide Branford residents an off-road bicycle/pedestrian trail between the town center, the railroad station and the Stony Creek section of town.

Our thanks to the Town Engineer and the Board of Selectmen for their support.
