A Beautiful Walk Through Tabor Property and Ecology Park

December 14, 2015

More than 40 walkers of all ages turned out on a beautiful early December day for Branford’s Shoreline Greenway Trail’s (SGT) First Saturday walk.

Meeting in the parking lot of Tabor Lutheran Church, we walked down Tabor Drive and entered the town owned Tabor property. Along the way, we passed Chet’s Pond, viewing the osprey nest atop a cell tower across the pond. Joining the Branford Trail, we eventually arrived at the top of Ecology Park, where walkers ooh-ed and ah-ed at the beautiful views that extended from The Long Island Sound, Thimble Islands, Stony Creek, the Branford River, to the dome of the Blackstone Library and steeples of the churches on the green.

The walk was led by Branford Walk Leader Leo Cristofar with able assistance from SGT Chair Judy Miller and Branford Co Chairs Chet Blomquist and Peg Stamp. Miller announced the good news that SGT has signed an agreement with the town that clears the way for application of federal funds to develop and finish this section of the Greenway Trail. Also on hand to greet the walkers were Branford trail development leader Jack Wood and Branford team member Patricia Spiegelhalter, who also took some photos of the walkers.

The next First Saturday walk will take place on Saturday, January 2, in HAMMONASSET STATE PARK. Meet at the SGT trailhead parking lot off Route One just east of the Hammonasset entrance road. Exit 62 from I 95 south to Route 1. Left on Route 1. Just past park entrance road, turn right into the SGT parking lot. Questions: madison@shorelinegreenwaytrail.org
