On a pleasantly cool late-summer day, more than 30 people from Branford and surrounding towns explored the Tabor Property. Led by Leo Cristofar, we walked the gravel roads used by town workers, then a section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail (SGT) that is under development, from Chet’s Pond almost to Pine Orchard Road. Next, we circled back on part of the Branford Trail before walking up the road to the top of Ecology Park. 
Many of the participants were previously unfamiliar with all the trails and sights available in this area. SGT chairperson Judy Miller discussed the need for us to bypass part of the trail that had become overgrown as a result of rapid growth of weeds this summer and a shortage of volunteer trail maintainers but then shared the good news

that clearing of the existing trail and construction of a formal trail through the Tabor property is anticipated to take place next spring. At Ecology Park (the former Branford landfill), we took in panoramic views that included the roof dome of the Blackstone Library, the steeples of churches on the town green, the Branford River, and Long Island Sound. From the top of Ecology Park, part of the group took the road back down while a few intrepid walkers hiked down the steep hill on the north side of the property.
