Construction has begun on a new section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail in East Haven. When complete, the approximately 1/3-mile section will traverse Farm River State Park to connect a completed segment of the Shoreline Greenway Trail on town property at the former D.C. Moore School with Short Beach Road not far from the Branford line.

The majority of the new section will comprise a crushed-granite-covered, packed stone trail, and two 9-foot-wide bridges with railings will connect trail segments within the park. The section will cover the route of an existing trail, cleared by members of Boy Scout Troop 401 of East Haven, that has been walkable for years. Its completion will make the trail also usable by bicyclists, wheelchair users, parents pushing strollers and others.

Construction of the new section has been funded entirely by a $94,346 Recreational Trails Grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. It is being built by Timber & Stone LLC of East Montpelier, Vermont, whose crew arrived on site Monday, October 3, to deliver equipment in order to start building the trail the following morning. The East Haven Public Services Department provided in-kind services to ready the trail for construction.

The project is expected to take four to six weeks.
