Trail Development Update, Autumn 2007
Chair Jack Wood reports that we have an ongoing effort to make application to CT DEP and CT DOT for permission to use park lands and highway right-of-way. This will be a continuing task over the next few years. So far we have had some success in Madison and have planned applications in all of the towns.
Ted Braun’s linear trail photo project mentioned by Chip in his letter above will be invaluable to us for gathering data needed to develop and construct the Trail.
In September, CT DOT initiated the Shoreline Greenway Trail enhancement project with a meeting in East Haven chaired by Bob Rakowski, enhancement project manager for CT DOT. The meeting was conducted by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc, consulting engineers retained by CT DOT to assist the four towns, Madison, Guilford, Branford and East Haven, in meeting the federal and state requirements for accessing the $2,650,000 federal funds earmarked for SGT. It was a very good meeting that provided a flood of useful and encouraging information to the attending representatives of the four towns and SGT.
