Branford Update, Autumn 2007
We are ready to construct our third section of trail as soon as the easement agreement with Pine Orchard Association is finalized. This section will create a link between Pine Orchard Road and Birch Road [Birch Road was Branford’s first section which was constructed in 2004.
The Branford SGT Team was awarded a grant of $23,200 from CT DEP 2007 Recreational Trails Grants Program to be used to construct the section along Totoket Rd between Tilcon and Blackstone Avenue.
On National Trails Day, June 2, our Team hosted a celebration project at the newly constructed section along Tilcon Road, off Totoket Road. The project included plantings, a rock ‘bench’ and vegetation maintenance on the top of the trolley trestle. The area offers a beautiful view of the salt marsh overlooking the Trolley Trail, a very popular scenic path between Pine Orchard and Stony Creek.
The last several months we have had ongoing conversations with a variety of groups, such as: – Young Park Commission: our proposal is being submitted to the Commission as requested, to approve the section that will link Birch Road to Totoket Road, travel through Young’s Park and exit onto Blackstone Avenue. – Shore Line Trolley Museum: we continue to explore together several feasible paths to link East Haven with Branford via the property owned by the Trolley Museum, and hope to agree on a pathway in the next several months. – Branford Land Trust: they hosted a meeting with our Branford SGT members. We were able to share our vision of the entire four-town shoreline trail, while highlighting where sections may cross Branford Land Trust property.
