Come Work on the Trail Feb. 9

Anyone interested in hands-on work on the Shoreline Greenway Trail is invited to gather at Hammonassett Beach State Park’s campground parking lot at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own tools. Rakes would be useful, as well as loppers, hedge trimmers, clippers and pruning saws.

Sturdy boots or shoes are recommended, as well as strong work gloves, hats, and rough clothing. Pants should be tucked into socks to deter those ticks that are still active despite the winter weather.

This will be the second work party in 2008. The first was on Sunday, Jan. 13.

Team member Ginny Raff, one of the organizers, said that the path is well on its way to being a decent walking trail and that the January volunteers were thrilled to have a real hiker come through while they working.
