Branford First Saturday 09-05 Gathering

September 11, 2020

On Saturday September 5, a group of about 40 enthusiastic people gathered on Branford’s Tabor Trail for the first in our resumption of SGT’s First Saturday hikes. It is strange to experience “spring fever” in September, but that’s one of the oddities of 2020. To accommodate the size of the masked crowd, and to maintain social distancing, we divided into 2 groups, one led by Judy Miller, the other by Leo Christofar. Several hikers brought dogs, a number were joined by children, and the sun shone brightly. We wove our way past trail landmarks, as Judy and Leo shared historic and background stories to enliven the hike. The stunning labyrinth drew immediate interest from a young inspired child, and we took in the glorious view from Chet’s Pond. As we approached the solar field, a number of heavily loaded cleanup trucks were hauling Isaiah storm debris to the Branford Public Works location. So we got a first-hand view of the hard work that goes into maintaining the safety and well-being of the trail itself. More walks and trail activities are in the planning stages. Dates to be announced.
