Previously he served as president of the nonprofit Farmington Valley Trails Council for 14 years. In 2014\, Bruce was appointed Chairman of the Governor’s Connecticut Greenways Council\, which coordinates all state stakeholders in planning\, implementing\, and funding the greenway system through the Connecticut Recreational Trails Grants Program for the Dept. of Energy &amp; Environmental Protection. That program has distributed over $21 million to 140 projects to date.\n\n\n \nWe also be updating the membership on several initiatives and progress in adding section to the trail!. October is a lovely time of year to be outdoors and we hope you will join us for this Fall event. We tend to admire the majestic trees or rhapsodize over the colorful wildflowers\, but shrubs give us plenty to look at as well. Learn to identify some of the common local shrubs on the Hammonassett Greenway Trail with botanical author Lauren Brown.  Lauren Brown is the author of two botanical field guides\, Weeds and Wildflowers in Winter (W.W. Norton) and Grasses\, Sedges\, Rushes: An Identification Guide (Yale University Press).  She is vice-president of the Connecticut Botanical Society and serves on the board of directors of the Branford Land Trust.”\n\n\n\n\nWe will walk the Hammonasset-west section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail in Madison. \nMeet at 10 AM at  the Trailhead parking lot\, Post Road East\, Madison \nThis is being hosted by the Guilford Shoreline Greenway Trail team and partnering with the Branford Land Trust. \nAbout the Branford Land Trust: \nThe Branford Land Trust is a non-profit organization\, founded in 1967 with the goal of protecting Branford’s natural resources. We’ll take the Branford Trail back to the Tabor property and return on the Tabor Loop past the pollinator garden to the parking lot. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike Saturday\, August 5th\, 10 AM\, meeting at the Baldwin Middle School parking lot (68 Bullard Dr\, Guilford\, CT 06437). We will start our hike in Baldwin Woods\, heading north into the West River Preserve (owned by the Town of Guilford\, overseen by the Guilford Conservation Commission) towards the West River and then south into Bittner Park. These 3 adjoining pieces of open space comprise over 200 acres of public land and approximately 7 miles of trails. Wear hiking boots (some wet spots depending on weather) and some hilly terrain. Bug spray recommended. Leashed dogs welcomed. \nNOTE: the starting point has changed from earlier notices since there is a professional disc golf tournament in Bittner Park and parking will be limited there. DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in history?  Trolley trains?  A pleasant walk to a river?  Osprey sightings? \nIf so\, and in celebration of National Trails Day\, come celebrate the 12th year of partnership between the Shoreline Greenway Trail East Haven & Branford teams and the Shoreline Trolley Museum as we team up to provide a great event! \nFollowing our 1st Saturday theme\, we will gather at 10:00 at the Shore Line Trolley Museum\, 17 River Street in East Haven\, which houses nearly 100 vintage transit vehicles. \nA Museum volunteer will take us for a ride along the museum’s scenic track through the Farm River estuary. \n \nParticipants will disembark at a platform to walk to the old dike at the Farm River\, visit the remains of an old crushing plant\, and talk about its history.  \nAfter the walk\, a museum volunteer will take us on a tour of the old trolleys\, including the PATH train car that survived 9/11 at the World Trade Center. \nFor further information\, Contact:  Judy Miller\, 203-589-8335 or Barbara Brow\, ‭(203) 469-9127‬
