SUMMARY:June 18 - REI Water Fountain Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:In 2020 the Madison town team of Shoreline Greenway Trail was awarded a grant from REI’s Milford CT store. With support of Hammonasset Beach State Park staff\, a new water station was installed near the Greenway Trail parking lot at Hammonasset. It’s already in use by humans and dogs! \nOn June 18th at 10 am Shoreline Greenway Trail (an REI grantee) will hold a celebratory ribbon cutting. Because of previous COVID-19 restrictions\, the event is long overdue and we are excited to have representatives from REI\, the SGT\, State\, and local dignitaries. Please join us at the Hammonasset Beach State Park outer parking lot (just north of the main entrance to the park) as we celebrate this great project together! \n \nAny questions can be addressed to Dan Buckley of the Shoreline Greenway Trail at danbuckley@shorelinegreenwaytrail.org The Shoreline Greenway Trail consists of four town teams – one each in Madison\, Guilford\, Branford\, and East Haven\, and each collaborates with other towns and advocacy groups in the interest of a more bike- and pedestrian-friendly Shoreline. Each town team works closely with town governments and residents as they develop and implement local solutions!

SUMMARY:Guilford Girl Scouts - June 5th
DESCRIPTION:On June 5th the Shoreline Greenway Trail\, Madison team\, hosted the Guilford Girl Scouts for a walk on the Hammonasset section of the Madison trail. \n\nThe walk was led by a new volunteer and science teacher\, Hollyann\, who stepped up to use our newly created ‘self-guided walking tour’ to help share the delights of this trail section.\n\nIt was not only a spectacular day but the Girls were very inquisitive.\n\nThey really enjoyed the large leaves at the bottom of several trees. They all took a picture with their hand on a particularly large hickory leaflet.  They also thought the pine needles on the pitch pine were cool.\n\n\nWhat a great way to spend a day.  Special thanks to Becca and her troop and Hollyann for leading the walk.

SUMMARY:Shoreline Greenway Trail Annual Meeting 10-26-21
DESCRIPTION:Update on the Trail\, & Safe Streets Task Force Report\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPlease join us this Tuesday evening! Here are the details: \nWhat: SGT is holding its annual meeting online this year\, so we hope you will be able to join us. In addition to reporting on our accomplishments and future plans\, we are excited to have Sam Gerritz of Safe Streets Task Force as our guest — see below for his bio. \nWhen: Tuesday\, October 26\, 2021\, 7:00 pm. \nWhere: ZOOM. Click this link to join the meeting: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84445377799?pwd=VEx6NUw1QUFmMDNUWEV6OFNsT0x4UT09Meeting ID: 844 4537 7799Passcode: 754059 \nSpecial Instructions: Please join a few minutes before the meeting starts if you can\, particularly if you’re new to Zoom. \n——–Sam Gerritz grew up in a small town in southern Ohio\, where he enjoyed walking and biking everywhere he could. After majoring in chemistry at the College of Wooster (OH)\, Sam moved to Cambridge MA and obtained his PhD in chemistry from MIT\, then spent 8 years in Durham\, NC. Sam and his family moved to Guilford in 2001. Sam has worked as a medicinal chemist at pharma and biotech companies his entire career; his wife Sarah is a family medicine physician. Given his strong interest in cycling and his cycling commutes to Wallingford and (now) New Haven\, there are very few roads in New Haven County that Sam hasn’t explored. Sam was involved with the SGT in the early days\, and enjoyed many exploratory walks around Branford\, Guilford\, and Madison with Larry Dowler. Work demands prompted Sam to take a break from volunteer work\, but in 2019 he was appointed the chair of the Guilford Safe Streets Task Force.
