On Saturday, April 25 Judy Miller of Branford Shoreline Greenway Trail team led a congenial group on a walk on the Stony Creek Trolley Trail the highlighted future projects on the trail. The most important is the preservation of the historic iron bridge on the trail, for which SGT and the Town of Branford received a Recreational Trails Grant of $400,000.00.00 in 2024. Plans also include building a kayak launch area at the foot of the bridge and stabilizing the surrounding area. The bridge will be ADA compliant, and as we walked the trail, Miller pointed out improvements that could make the entire trail handicapped accessible. As we emerged from the Tilcon section of the trail to the intersection with Totoket Road, Miller pointed out the ways in which Totoket and Blackstone Avenue could be made safer for bicyclists and pedestrians by extending the Greenway Trail along Totoket and Blackstone Avenue, creating an important connection with the Young’s Pond Park Section and thereby creating more than three miles of connected trail, most of it off road. The group enjoyed the walk, chatting about some of the history and botanical features of the area on a brisk April day.
