JANUARY 4, SAT, 10am – WINTER WONDERLAND WALK IN CLINTON

Something new and different! Join us in Peters Memorial Woods, a 45-acre preserve with half a dozen trails which traverse glacial ravines, moss and fern-covered outcroppings, and bridges over creeks and through swampland – a magical place. Wear sturdy shoes for rocky terrain and leaves on trail.  Jointly sponsored by the Clinton Blue/Greenway and Shoreline Greenway Trail, with thanks to the Clinton Land Trust. FEBRUARY 1, SAT, 10am – GROUNDHOG DAY WALK TO FARM RIVER STATE PARK, EAST HAVEN 

Hike through the picturesque wooded trail at DC Moore School with glacial outcroppings to the trailhead at Mansfield Grove Road, then head east onto Pevetty Drive to the beautiful Farm River State Park, peaceful and pristine with natural caves formations, osprey nests and spectacular water views of Farm River. Easy walk, two steep areas, c. 1 1/2 miles   Directions:From 142 West, left onto Mansfield Grove Road to stop sign, right onto Hoop Pole Lane to second (school) parking lot on left. From Coe Avenue take a left on Myrtle St, right at stop sign, left onto Elliot Street, right to parking lot. Contact: Barbara 203-469-9127.

MARCH 7, SAT 10am – DISCOVER WINTER WEEDS ON WALK-ALONG AT HAMMONASSET STATE PARK IN MADISON                                                                                    Walk along with expert local botanist and naturalist Lauren Brown and observe the unique beauty of winter weeds before spring bursts them into new growth.  Her book, Weeds in Winter, will be available for purchase too!  A leisurely walk of c. an hour to 1½ hours.  Directions: Meet at Park’s SGT Parking lot off Route 1, Madison.  In case of snow, walk will be cancelled.  Contact: Pam 203-453-2271.

APRIL 4, SAT, 10am – TABOR TRAIL SCAVENGER HUNT IN BRANFORD 

Kids, bring your parents and welcome Spring.  Follow the Leader, Leo Cristofar, for an enjoyable walk up to the Ecology Park and around the Labyrinth.  And search for surprises along the trail.  Directions:Meet at the Tabor trailhead off Tabor Drive, Branford.   Contact: Leo 203-214-5824.
