The new section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail in East Haven is finished! Construction wrapped up on Wednesday, November 16, and the trial is now open for use. The approximately 1/3-mile section crosses Farm River State Park to connect another segment of the Shoreline Greenway Trail at the former D.C. Moore School with Short Beach Road not far from the Branford line.
The majority of the new section comprises a crushed-granite-covered, packed stone trail, and two 9-foot-wide bridges with railings link trail segments within the park. The section has been walkable for years, but the trail is now also usable by bicyclists, wheelchair users, parents pushing strollers and others.
Construction of the new section was funded entirely by a $94,346 Recreational Trails Grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. It was built by Timber & Stone LLC of East Montpelier, Vermont. The East Haven Public Services Department provided in-kind services to ready the trail for construction.
