Pedestrians, cyclists and cars in downtown Guilford
The Guilford Board of Selectmen has approved formation of a mobility task force with a focus on bicyclist and pedestrian safety. The panel will be asked to look town-wide at issues related to bike, pedestrian and motor vehicle transportation and to recommend solutions for possible implementation.
Sidewalks, bike lanes, shared lane markings, multi-use pathways and trails, and traffic-calming measures are among the strategies likely to be considered as Guilford seeks to improve transportation and make the town safer for pedestrians, cyclists, people in wheelchairs, pushing strollers, etc.
Selectmen approved formation of the Guilford Safe Streets Mobility Task Force at their April 16 meeting. They did not name anyone to the panel, although First Selectman Matt Hoey said about 15 people have volunteered to serve on it. Hoey said he wants “full representation of the various interest groups who have voiced their opinions and concerns about … various projects” in town—including a section of the Shoreline Greenway Trail alongside Route 1, the Nut Plains Pathway and several proposals for new sidewalks.
