It was a gorgeous Saturday, April 28th, for New Haven’s 2018 10th Annual Rock to Rock charity bike ride celebrating Earth Day and local organizations working to make a green, healthy and just climate.

The Shoreline Greenway Trail was involved throughout the day with bike riders, rest stop management and an information table.   SGT Team Co-Captains Christi Burton and Kristen D’Souza had a great time biking with a group riding the 20-mile route through New Haven, Woodbridge and Hamden. The group took a photo at the finish line with props made by student volunteers.

SGT volunteer Greg Teschendorf and Board Member, Ginny Raff hosted the metric century rest stop in Guilford in front of Perk on Church. Riders came through Guilford on their 62-mile route and snacked on fruits provided by Fresh Market (Big thank you to Fresh Market and Perk on Church for supporting the Rock to Rock riders!!).   Rest stops composted as Rock to Rock worked towards a zero waste event.

Back at the finish line at East Rock Park, Judy Miller SGT Chair manned a SGT information table with maps and trail information. Many people were interested in learning more about the proposed connection between New Haven and SGT’s East Haven trail at Light House Point Park

New this year for Rock to Rock was a 5-mile family parade ride. Here’s a few photos of the creative ways in which individuals decorated their bikes and/or bike trailers to display what is important to them and their organizations.

In summary, 1,300 riders came together on a spectular spring day to enjoy the outdoors and bike together for causes that matter to us. Thank you to those who road for, donated to, or volunteered on behalf of the Shoreline Greenway Trail at this year’s Rock to Rock. It is a well organized and uplifting event and we hope you will consider joining us next year.
