The first of four events in the Trolleys and Trails series cosponsored by Shoreline Greenway Trail and the Shore Line Trolley Museum, held on July 15 at the Stony Creek Trolley Trail, was a great success. The weather had been uncertain, but came through with a nice, sunny day.

About forty enthusiastic guests listened to Bill Wall of the Shore Line Trolley as he described the history of the trolley system using a 15-page handout he had created as a reference. Guests were happy to take the handouts home with them for future reading.

Branford Chair Judy Miller started off the event and introduced Bill, who talked as he led us onto the trolley trail, stopping along the way to make special mention of historic Trolley stories.

He was full of information as he told us of how they’d created the cut by pickaxes and explosives and explained how the
trolley track had actually gone overhead of the Tilcon tracks that carry trap rock from North Haven out to the dock on Long Island Sound.

On our return, a small group of intrepid walkers went up to the Vedder monument, which overlooks the trolley trail to the view to the Thimble Islands.

This was a great start to the Trolleys & Trails series, and we’re all looking forward to the next one!!!!
